Extended Bio
Being born on August 8, 1992, in San Diego, CA makes me a Leo Sun, Sagittarius Moon, and Aquarius Rising. But being the people pleaser that I was, I never allowed myself to be me. Instead, I did what was expected of me. As the firstborn of four daughters in a Mexican-American family, I felt the pressure to be the "best" at everything, but especially at school.
I always excelled at math and even though I didn't like it. I kept at it because that's where I would receive praise. I liked being the youngest or only girl or only Mexican in my higher-level math classes, as I skipped a grade in math. But because I focused so much on math, I didn't feel like I could allow my creative side out. Adults would also dissuade me from pursuing the arts.
At Pepperdine University, I studied Psychology and Mathematics. I figured that these were broad enough to be able to do anything that I may happen upon in life, even though I truly just wanted to minor in everything. When I graduated in 2014, I still had no clue what I wanted to do.
After graduation, I would switch my job regularly, trying on careers as one would try on clothes. I was a law clerk, a project manager, an education specialist, a web developer, a tutor, and then a coding & chess teacher.
The after-school coding & chess teaching position made me realize that I am a teacher. I fell in love with teaching so much so, that I decided to go back to school to get my Master's in Education.
In 2018, I graduated from the University of San Diego, with an M.Ed. in Instruction and Curriculum, which means I not only know how to teach but also how to create engaging curriculum that will lead to the most retention of knowledge.
During this time, I taught middle school computer science in a low-income school that taught me firsthand all the injustices of the American Education System.
This experience led me to pursue a Ph.D. in Education at Claremont Graduate University while still teaching. I have taught every grade from K-8th grade. I loved being a teacher but I knew that I wanted more.
I finished all my Ph.D. coursework in three semesters. I presented at many conferences including, RILE at Stanford and A Conversation in the Liberal Arts at Westmont College. I loved learning about the school system and how it should be but I hated that the academy was a gatekeeper to all this wonderful, useful knowledge.
In 2020, I was burnout. I remember thinking "there is no way I could keep working like this for decades".
Then COVID hit and everything paused. I started questioning everything and everyone, including myself.
That's when I realized that I had no idea who I truly was. I was just a cog in a machine doing what needed to get done. The only decision that was truly mine was marrying my husband in spite of the pandemic canceling our wedding.
Around that same time, I was asked to join an Abundance Challenge Group on Facebook. Every day, there was a new video and journal prompt to look more deeply into oneself.
After it ended, I yearned for more! The joy and excitement I once had for learning was returning! I read so many books and watched tons of videos about anything that called my attention.
I learned about the chakras. I connected to the elements (water, fire, air, and earth). I started to balance my divine masculine and feminine energy because before I hated my masculinity and feared my femininity. And I fell in love with astrology and uncovered how to use it as a guide to my life as it was falling apart.
In September 2020, I heard a voice tell me to start a podcast and to name it: Grounded Spirits. It started as a way to document my spiritual journey (and has now turned into a self-expression/personal power podcast with an emphasis on astrology).
In 2021, I quit school even though I just had my dissertation left to get my doctorate (I've since returned). I quit my job even though I loved being a teacher.
My intuition led me to move out of the city and spend more time in nature (and I do in my backyard, where this picture was taken) and more time doing what I actually loved (which was doing arts & crafts and gardening).

Diving into spirituality taught me that witchcraft and religion are one and the same. Everything is connected. We are all one. Through all of this gained knowledge, I became so deeply connected to my intuition which I have allowed to lead me to where I need to go.
In 2022, I wrote 8 books in less than 6 months. I still can't believe that's real but as Bob Proctor says, "when you slow down, that's when you accomplish more."
I have built this business from nothing. No followers. No money. No support from anyone except for my husband and my two German Shepards (pictured are Mandi and Billy).
Looking back, I realize that I've always been an educator. I have been a teacher for over a decade. I've taught thousands of students, spoken to tens of thousands, and inspired millions.
Through ILA Institute, I have consolidated all my spiritual and academic knowledge using the astrological signs as the structure. The academy rejected astrology hundreds of years ago. But why? Maybe because it would give individuals too much power to know how to activate their highest power. I'm here to change that.
I had to learn all the rules to break them to make the most impact.
